MAY 1851 - 21 Apr 1924) John Aumann passed
away at his farm home in Pine Valley, Clark County, Wis., near this
city, Monday morning, April 21, 1924, at 2:15 o'clock. His death
was due to complications from an accident several years ago.
Deceased was born in Jefferson, Wis., May 2, 1851. He was educated
in the schools there and was there married to Caroline Kemmeter
Jan. 7, 1873. They lived in Jefferson Co. until March 1905, when
they moved to Neillsville and purchased the farm which was his home
until his death. Jan. 7, 1923
marked the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs.
Aumann, and their golden wedding was celebrated at their home and
at St. Mary's Church. It was a day of rejoicing, especially because
of the fact that not only were both parents living, but also their
twelve children, all of who were present at the time. One daughter,
Mrs. Caroline Wingenter of North Milwaukee, passed to her reward
the following August. Mr. Aumann is mourned by his wife and their
eleven surviving children, namely: Joseph and John of Seattle,
Wash.; Frank of Jefferson; Charles of Neillsville; Rev. Edward of
Ft. Atkinson; Mrs. Ferd Hrach of Neillsville; Mrs. Walter Knilans
of Delavan; Mrs. Wm. Gaden of Neillsville; Gottlieb of North
Milwaukee; Mrs. Jake Haas of Neillsville and Henry on the home
place. He leaves also two brothers, Joseph of Jefferson and George
of Cashton; one sister, Mrs. Teresa Suhr of Cashton, Wis.; and 22
grandchildren. Mr. Aumann was a
man who won the respect of all who knew him. He was an industrious
farmer, faithful in his duties to his home and his family, a
faithful member of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Catholic
Knights. Funeral services
were conducted at St. Mary's Church, Rev. Edward Aumann, a son of
the departed, was celebrant at the Solemn High Mass; Rev. Alois
Zinthefer of Marshfield acted as deacon and Rev. P. Weber of
Neillsville as sub-deacon. He was laid to rest in St. Mary's
Cemetery, Rev. Edward Aumann blessing the grave. Those from outside
of the city present at the funeral, besides the children, were
Joseph Aumann, a brother of Jefferson, Miss B. M. Kemmeter of
