Neis, Anna (6 Jan. 1861 - 16 May 1923)
Mrs. Anna Neis died suddenly at her home in Neillsville, Wednesday, May 16, her death resulting from a stroke of paralysis.
Deceased, whose maiden name was Anna Schwellenbach, was born at Jefferson, Wis., Jan. 6, 1861. She grew to womanhood there and was married to Hubert Neis at St. John’s Church, in Jefferson, Nov. 7, 1882. Over 20 years ago they moved to Clark County and settled on a farm near Christie. Nine years ago, Mr. Neis died and soon after, Mrs. Neis moved to Neillsville where she made her home until her death.
To Mr. and Mrs. Neis were born six children, all of whom survive to mourn their mother’ death. They are Mrs. Geo. Gruber, Mrs. Albert Huber, Miss Marcella Neis and Cletus Neis. She leaves also 13 grandchildren and three brothers, Joseph, Ed. And Roland Schwellenbach and one sister, Mrs. Mary Prock.
Mrs. Neis was a faithful and devout member of the Catholic church and died fortified by all the consolations of the church. She was a most excellent woman in every way, doing well all the duties of life that came to her hands to do.
The funeral took place at St. Mary’s Church Monday forenoon, Rev. P. Weber officiating. The pall bearers were Jos. Barton, Jos. Prock, Frank Gall, Nolan Blau, Jos. Wiertz and John Marx. Those from away who attended the funeral were Mrs. George Gruber of Dubuque, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Neis, Lodi; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rock of Chippewa Falls, Mrs. Albert Huber of Vida, Montana; Cletus Neis of Menomonie; Mrs. Mary Haas and Miss Caroline Hass of Prairie du Sac; Mr. and Mrs. John Hass, Rafael Hass and Peter Schuld of Loyal. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Roch and their children were here from Chippewa Falls the Sunday before Mrs. Neis died to spend Mother’s Day with her.
