Strey, Carl Robert Edward (14 Jan. 1841 - 8 April 1925)
Mr. Strey, one of the old residents of Grant, died at his home April 8, aged 84 years, 2 months and 24 days. Deceased was born in Germany Jan. 14, 141, being the son of Samuel Gottlieb Strey and his wife Caroline nee Voigt. He grew to manhood there and on the 17th day of March, 1868 was joined in holy wedlock to Wilhelmina Backhaus who died 23 years ago on the same day that Mr. Strey passed away. In the year 1878 the family came to this country and settled in the town of Grant. Of the thirteen children born to Mr. and Mrs. Strey, seven survive, namely; Mrs. John Dietrich, Edward and William of the town of Grant and Robert and Albert who live in York. Deceased leaves also 21 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mr. Strey had the respect of all who knew him. The Maple Works Lutheran church, Rev. M. Hasz officiating. The pallbearers were David and Gottlieb Hillert, Reinhold Kuechenmeister, Gus. Beilke, W. Wischuclke and Adolph Schlinsog.
