Vandeberg, Bertha Johanna (9 Oct. 1904 - 14 May 1925)

MRS. LAWRENCE VANDE BERG

Bertha Johanna Diercks, wife of Lawrence Vandeberg, passed away at the Marshfield Hospital on Thursday, May 14, 1925.

She was born October 9, 1904 in the city of Neillsville, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Diercks. At the age of one year she moved with her parents to a farm south of town, where they resided a few years. Later they moved to a farm in the town of York, where she finished public school and attended four months of German school at Christie.

On June 4, 1924, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Vandeberg. They moved onto the groom’s farm in York, living there until the first of April.

About the middle of April they took up residence in Marshfield, living there one short month. The first of May she became ill with scarlet fever, later developing bronchial pneumonia. She was taken to the hospital but medical aid could not stay that grim messenger.

She was a young woman of lovely disposition and character, greatly loved by all who knew her. Her death just on the threshold of life, leaving a large group of relatives and friends, seems indeed a great loss.

She leaves to mourn her early departure, her husband, her father, mother, 3 brothers, William, Arthur and Carl, all of the town of York. There also remain a host of other relatives, and friends.

One sister, Mrs. Fred Haack, preceded her in death February 16, 1924.

The funeral was held at the York church on Sunday, Rev. Mallory officiating.

The pall bearers were, Donald Kier, Ernest McKimm, Ralph and Elmer Northup, Harvey Palmer, Ira Davis, Clayton Turner and Arthur Kunzle.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Fred Haack of Dorchester, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schwartz of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Becker of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Flewhafe, Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Vandeberg of Baldwin, Mr. and Mrs. John Gluewen, Mr. John Byers of Waupun, Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Lawrence of Minneapolis.
