Brooks, Fred (1925)
A MODERN DEER SLAYER
Fred Brooks, who travels for the Schwan Sausage Co. of Eau Claire, had the unique experience Friday of having a deer commit suicide by using his car as the method of snuffing off. Fred was driving to Park Falls and was following close behind a doctor. A doe jumped up from the side of the road and the doctor narrowly missed the animal. Fred hit her, however, or rather the deer hit Fred, for she struck the rear fender of his car and was almost instantly killed. Fred stopped and picked her up and hauled the carcass into Park Falls, where he interviewed a game warden and enabled to buy the deer. He brought part of the animal home and the Brooks family will regale themselves on fresh venison steaks and roasts for a few days. Fred telephoned the details of his peculiar encounter, home so that his dad could hunt up Walt Dangers and explain the modern methods of killing deer.
