Funeral services were held for my grandfather, Fred Lindner, in the Lutheran Church in Colby. I was in the 7th grade in Colby when he died.  He retired from the Wisconsin Central Railroad prior to my brothers birth in 1930.  

My mother died in 1947 so my grandparents (Fred and Pauline) moved in with us at Owen.  In the winter of 1948 we went to Orlando Florida and stayed with Aunt Delia, I finished 5th grade in Orlando and my father was now the depot agent at Spencer and he sold the home in Owen and we moved into my grandparents home in Colby. 

In 1955 my dad changed depots and took over the agents job at Medford, I graduated from Colby and 6 days later was in the Air Force.  I got a 11 month and 20 day early out due to a base closing (Presque Isle, Maine) and the fact that I wanted to go to school and returned back to Colby in June of 1959 and my grandmother was dying of a stroke. 

My brother Arlo who graduated from Owen in 1948 was working for Convair in Fort Worth which built the B-58 aircraft, he went to Arlington State 30 miles away so I moved in with him and being only 20 years old at the time, brother was made my legal guardian which made me a Texan.  In 1961 I went to work for Bell Helicopter, then in 1971 for LTV, 1981 Rockwell International, 1986 Lockheed (Skunk Works and the Missiles and Space Division) retired and was asked to return back in 1999.  I am a non metallic materials engineer.   Some time after I was born (1939) my grandfathers brother Carl couldn't repay a loan for a farm southwest of Colby.  My grandmother cut off all association with relatives except for my aunt and uncle in Florida and her sister Martha and husband Paul in Milan.  I only heard rumors of relations with people in Marshfield and Greenwood.    I am the last Lindner who knew Fred Lindner.
