Oscar H. Mellenthin, 85, Beaver Dam, died Friday, March 12,2004, at Beaver Dam Community Hospital, Beaver Dam. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, at St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Philip Heyer officiated. Burial was in Highland Memory Cemetery, Beaver Dam.
Oscar H. Mellenthin was born Nov. 26, 1918, in Clark County, to Albert and Elsie (nee Schroeder) Mellenthin. He married Deloris Krueger on June 27, 1942, at Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. He was an active member and a past president of the church council. He was the owner of Beaver Sport Shop, Beaver Dam, for 35 years and sponsored many municipal sporting leagues, including softball and basketball. He served two terms as alderman for Beaver Dam, was member of the Beaver Dam Rotary, where he served as secretary for 22 years, was a past president and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce serving on the board of directors, was the manager of the boys baseball recreation league for many years and was a hunter safety instructor for 31 years. He was a member of Trout Unlimited, Beaver Dam Conservation Club, the Senior Citizens of Beaver Dam, the Senior Citizen Third Street Band and was a former member of the Fisherman Club.
Survivors include his wife, Deloris, Beaver Dam; three children, James (Mary) Mellenthin, Ripon, Cheryl (Mark) Chapman, Cat Spring, Texas, and Barbara (Dale) Walker, Beaver Dam; one brother, Wilbur (Jean) Mellenthin, Spencer; and one sister, Eleanor Luepke, Spencer.
