H. (1 JUN 1847 - 30 Dec 1927) Charles H.
Sheldon, a former sheriff of Clark County, Wis., and for some time
postmaster of Thorp, died at his home near Gilman, Dec. 20, 1926.
He was born at Lisbon, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., June 1, 1847. He
came to Waupaca Co. in 1864, and to Thorp in 1882. He and Melvin
Nye built the first sawmill there, later disposing of this to Nye,
Lusk and Hudson. For a number of years he carried on a drug store
at Thorp. Mr. Sheldon was a
veteran of the Civil War, being a member of Co. A, 8th Wis.
Infantry. He was a charter member of the Odd Fellow Lodge at Thorp.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Charles Adams, and 9
