NEILLSVILLE PRESS (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 01/20/1927 Lowe, Joseph (18
JAN 1856 - 12 Jan 1927) After an illness
of several months duration, Joseph Lowe died Jan. 12, 1927 at West
Palm Beach, Florida. The remains were brought home, arriving here
on Saturday evening. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon
at the chapel of the Lowe undertaking parlors, Rev. Longenecker
officiating. Interment was made at Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.,
services being conducted at the grave by the Odd Fellow Fraternity,
of which deceased had been a life-long member. The M. W. A. also
attended in a body. J. B. Lowe was
born at Lancashire, England, on Jan. 18, 1856. With his parents he
came to America when he was a year old, they settling at Lonsdale,
Rhode Island. In 1865 they moved to a farm in Jackson Co., Wis. and
at the age of 20 years Mr. Lowe commenced to teach in a district
school. Mr. Lowe was
married Jun 1, 1881 to Mary Raas, and they continued to live on a
farm and he to teach in school until in 1885, when he embarked in
the meat business. Mr. Lowe operated this line of business for
about a year, when he and his family came to Neillsville and he
began work in the Lowe Brothers market. He worked for them until in
1888, when he bought the business and building of D. Roberts as a
fruit and confectionery store. He closed out that business and
embarked in the furniture and undertaking business, and which
continued to be his work until his death. For the past year Mr.
Lowe had been failing in health and he and his wife went to Florida
last winter in the hope that a change of climate would be
beneficial to him. Deceased was one
of the deans of Neillsville businessmen. He built up a fine
business by close application and by a kindly and genial
disposition. He was enterprising in the things that made for
Neillsville's growth and took a deep interest in all public
affairs. Joe was a great "visitor" and delighted in discussing
general affairs with those who came into the store or whom he met
in a casual manner. He had a great fund of humor and as a result
his life was one of happiness and contentment, and his demise will
be sincerely mourned by his many friends and associates. Mr. Lowe is
survived by his wife; his son, Herbert, and his daughters, Mrs. E.
Runkle of Waukesha, Mrs. F. T. Weeks of Neillsville and Miss Nan
Lowe, who teaches at Milwaukee. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
