Roman Earns Trip to NYC Dance Camp (- 2022)
Olivia Roman of Neillsville earned two Diamond awards and the Spotlight
Specialty Award: Best Entertainment Award at the recent Spotlight Dance Cup in
Green Bay. Submitted photo
Olivia Roman’s performance at a recent dance competition impressed the judges
enough that she earned an education dance experience in New York City this
summer.
Roman, who is from Neillsville, competed in the junior division of the Spotlight
Dance Cup in Green Bay Feb. 26. She performed two routines and earned a Diamond
on both, which is the highest adjudicated award possible.
Her hip-hop routine to “Poor Unfortunate Souls” placed first overall in her
division. Her conga routine received the Spotlight Specialty Award: Best
Entertainment Award out of all the petite and junior division solo and duet/trio
entries.
“This was an amazing accomplishment considering there were 35 entries for this
age group,” said Roman’s dance teacher Holly Rohde of Uplifting Movement and
Fitness (UMF) in Loyal.
This achievement was what earned Roman the invitation to attend the dance camp.
Also, participating in the competition was Aliya from Vesper who also attends
UMF. She placed second place overall in the junior division as a soloist with
her lyrical ballet routine. Besides UMF, 10 other dance studios from Wisconsin
and Michigan participated.
Rohde choreographed Roman’s routines. Roman has been working on the routines
since September.
