PAST CHAIRMAN, COUNCILMAN--1975 A former Levis
town board chairman and third ward alderman, Elmer E. Buddenhagen
of Neillsville, died July 8, 1975, at the age of 86 following a
brief illness. Funeral services were held Friday from the
Georgas-Gesche funeral home with the Rev. Gary Clark of the United
Church of Christ and Wayne Grap of the Masonic lodge officiating.
Burial was in the Neillsville cemetery. Elmer Buddenhagen,
son of William and Mathelda Bunkelman Buddenhagen, was born
December 22, 1888, at Seymour and was educated in schools there. He
farmed with his parents at Fond du Lac for three years before
coming to Clark County in 1904. He farmed first in the town of Pine
Valley. In 1916, Mr.
Buddenhagen moved to a farm in the town of Levis where he farmed
until 1942 when he retired from farming. He was employed by the
county highway department for several years. His marriage to
the former Emillia Duge took place July 27, 1912, at Detroit, MI.
Mrs. Buddenhagen preceded her husband in death on August 19,
1965. Mr. Buddenhagen
served on the Carlisle school board, as chairman of the Levis town
board for nine years, and as a third ward alderman and Neillsville
city councilman. He was a member of
the United Church of Christ, Neillsville, Masonic Lodge, NO. 163, F
& AM, Neillsville Commandery No. 36, Knights Templar, Woodmen
of the World and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Chapter No.
1602. Survivors include
one son, Leland Buddenhagen, Rt. 2, Neillsville, and three
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Pall bearers were
Alfred Kleckner, Gordon Meddaugh, Ivo Haines, Jerry Opelt, Delbert
Struble and Albert Smith. Wilfred Galstad
sang "Beautiful Isle" and "Rock of Ages." Marilyn Galstad was the
organist. Amon those
attending the services were the following from out of town: Mr. and
Mrs. James Chaffin and family, Wautoma; Mrs. Brule Carleson and
Joyce Carleson Mattison, Eau Claire; Mrs. Dorothy Lawrence, Mr. and
Mrs. Ray Lawrence and Mrs. Myra Vanderhoof, Marshfield; Mrs.
Marvelene Butterbrodt, Loyal; Leona Buddenhagen Engel, Miss Bertha
Buddenhgen and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Beyer, Fond du Lac; Mrs. Clara
