NEILLSVILLE PRESS (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 08/25/1927 Head, Almira (18
MAY 1838 - 10 Augl 1927) Mrs. Almira Head,
one of the oldest residents of Clark County, Wis., passed away at
her home in this city Friday, Aug. 19, 1927, aged 89 years, 3
months and 1 day. Almira L. Payne
was born May 18, 1838, in the town of Grotten, Tompkins Co., N.Y..
She was married to Joel Head at Olean, N.Y., Aug. 26, 1854. They
came to Cataract, Wis., and lived there until 1867, arriving in
Neillsville May 18 of that year. This has been her home ever since.
Mr. Head was a miller, and for a time followed that trade, later
owning a meat market. Later Mr. and Mrs. Head ran a hotel for a
time. For more than 50 years she has lived in the house where she
died. To Mr. and Mrs.
Head were born three children: Marcia Rosilla, wife of Frank
Burgess, died July 23, 1910; Laura Arvilla, wife of Thomas Morris,
died July 26, 1915; and one son, Maurice G. Head. Her husband died
Dec. 2, 1875. While apparently
for many years Mrs. Head had a most uneventful life, yet she
watched with interest, great changes in this community and had
been an intelligent observer of great changes in the life of the
country and world. She retained a cheerful interest in people and
events, and enjoyed meeting old friends. The funeral was
held Monday at the home, Rev. S. B. Pinney of Mauston, former
pastor of the Presbyterian Church here, officiating. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
