NEILLSVILLE PRESS (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 01/12/1928 Henning, John N.
(25 OCT 1865 - 6 Jan 1928) John N. Henning,
one of the most prominent citizens of the town of Fremont, Clark
County, Wis., passed away at his home Friday morning, Jan. 6, 1928,
aged 62 years, 2 months and 12 days. He had not been in good health
for some time and had spent several weeks at the hospital at
Marshfield, returning home just before Christmas. His death was due
to heart trouble complicated with other diseases. John Nicholas
Henning was born Oct. 25, 1865, in Holstein, Germany. At the age of
three years he came to America with his parents, John and Catharine
Henning. They settled in Calumet County, living there till 1875,
when they moved to the town of Fremont, Clark County. Here the
family had to meet all the hardships and difficulties of a new
country, the father, mother and children working together to make
and maintain a home. On Dec. 5, 1901,
he was married to Anna Speiser of Lynn, and they settled on the
farm which was their home until now. To this happy union were born
eight children, three of who died in infancy. Those who remain with
their mother to mourn their father's death, are Dora, Ella, Alma,
Helen and Alice. Deceased leaves also two brothers, Herman of
Marshfield and August of Minneapolis, Minn., also three sisters:
Mrs. Anna Mundt of Chili, Katie and Marie of Marshfield. Mr. Henning was a
man of fine qualities, both in private and public life. In his home
he was a kind husband and loving father; in the community a helpful
and obliging neighbor, ever ready to lend a hand where help was
needed. He took an active interest in public affairs, having held
the office of Town Chairman, Treasurer and Assessor. At the time of
his death he was the town Assessor and Treasurer of his school
district. To his home and community and even beyond the boundaries
of this town he will be greatly missed. For over thirty years he
was a member of Neillsville Lodge No. 162, Free and Accepted
Masons, and was held in high esteem by that body. The funeral was
held Sunday afternoon in the Evangelical Church at Chili, Rev.
Zellmer of Marshfield and Rev. Betzold of Chili, Officiating. A
large delegation from the Neillsville Masonic lodge was in
attendance and took part in the funeral ceremonies. The great
gathering of neighbors and friends from far and near testified to
the esteem in which Mr. Henning was held. Those from away
who attended the funeral were Mrs. Gerhardt Riedel of Medford,
Wis., John Osten of Edgar and August Henning of Minneapolis. The pallbearers
were of the Masonic order, A. P. Sample, A. F. Dankemyer, Louis
Nelson, Martin Dankemyer, Floyd Winn and B. F. Winn. The flower girls
were Dorothy and Mable Portz, Ella Sanger, Loraine Gaulke, Edith
Moss and Hilda Beil. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
