Rueth John, Award Metals for Meritorious Service
On Friday, July 11, 1969, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Rueth were awarded posthumously
the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Purple Heart, and Good Conduct Medal. These
medals were presented by Captain Richard Chapin from Eau Claire.
The Bronze Star,is presented posthumously for distinguishing himself by
outstanding service in connection with ground operations against hostile force
in the Republis of Viet Nam.
The Air Medal is presented posthumously for distinguishing himself by
meritorious achievement while participating in sustained aerial flight in
support of Combat Ground Forces of the Republic of Viet Nam. During this time he
actively participated in more than twenty-five aerial missions missions over
hostile territory in support of counterinsurgency operations. During all of
these missions he displayed the highest order of air discipline and acted in
accordance with the best traditions of the service.
The Purple Heart was awarded for wounds received in action in Viet Nam resulting
in his death on the 17th of March 1969.
Prior to death, John had been awarded the National Defense Service Medal,
Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert
with machine gun bar, Sharpshooter Badge with rifle bar, and the Marksman Badge
with pistol bar.
