Fitzl, Jessie (? - 23 August 2014)
Authorities are investigating a one-vehicle crash Saturday that took the life of
Jessie Fitzl, 38, of Stanley.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call at approximately
7:50 p.m. reporting an accident on Copenhaver Avenue south of Broek Road in the
Town of Worden.
The initial investigation indicates Fitzl’s Vehicle was traveling north on
Copenhaver Avenue when it encountered two ATVs parked in a field near the crest
of a hill. Fitzl lost control after passing the ATVs and entered the east ditch.
The vehicle flipped several times and ejected the driver.
The vehicle came to rest in a field east of the roadway. Fitzl was found in the
east ditch approximately 200 feet north of the vehicle.
The first officers on the scene started lifesaving efforts of Fitzl. He was
transported to Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley, where he died from his
injuries.
Fitzl was not wearing his seat belt. Excessive speed is believed to be a factor
in the crash.
The Thorp Area Ambulance and Fire Department, the Stanley Police Department and
the Clark County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Department and Clark County Coroner Richard Schleifer
are continuing the investigation into the crash. The second fatality in a
three-day period is Clark County’s fifth fatality in 2014.
