Schummel, George Richard (25 March 1858 - 31 May 1926)
George Schummel, an old resident of this locality, died at his home east of this city May 31. He had a stroke of paralysis several months ago and had been in poor health since then.
George Richard Schummel was born in Buffalo, N. Y., March 25, 1858. He came to Clark County with is parents when but a small child; they settled on a farm on the Ridge Road. He was united in marriage with Emma Darling March 10, 1886. To this union were born four daughters: Ethel, Mrs. August Wittke; Grace, Mrs. Henry Wittke; Nellie, Mrs. R. B. Armitage, all of Neillsville; and Blanche, Mrs. Asa Darling of Milwaukee. He leaves also two sisters, Esther, Mrs. Marion Hutchings and Elizabeth, Mrs. Fred Schmidt; also two brothers, James Schummel of Neillsville and Dan Rausch of Granton.
During his early manhood, Mr. Schummel worked in lumber woods, and after his marriage he lived for a number of years on the Ring Stock Farm and also in the Frank Hewett Farm. Deceased was a member of the Odd Fellows and Modern Woodmen Lodges. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, four daughters, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren and a host of friends who tender their sympathy to the bereaved family.
Funeral services were held today, Wednesday at the Congregational church, Rev. Longenecker officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Neillsville Cemetery.
