Allen, Alta (30 October 1908 – 30 April 1984)

Mrs, W. H. (Alta) Allen, 75, died at Neillsville Memorial Home on Monday morning, April 30. Mr. and Mrs. Allen made their residence at 211 Grand Ave., Neillsville.

Funeral services were to be held this afternoon (Thursday, May 3) at 1:30 from the Neillsville United Church of Christ with the Rev. Gary Clark officiating. Burial was to be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers were to be John Bergemann, Harold Robinson, Dale Short, Herb Puscheck, Wayne Grap and Arlan Mills. (The body was to lie in stere at the Gesche Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and again Thursday morning until 11:30 a.m., and then at the church for one hour prior to services.)

The deceased was born on October 30, 1908, in the Town of Seif, to Alvin and Rose (Ruege) Eisentraut. She received her education in the Town of Grant schools and graduated in 1926 from Neillsville High School. She then taught in the Cannonville and Irving Schools. On June 30, 1928, she married Willard H. Allen in the Town of Grant ceremonies. The couple made their home in Neillsville. She worked for the W. G. Woodward and J.C. Penney stores in the city for many years.

Mrs. Allen was a flower lover and an active bridge player for many years. She also enjoyed golfing and bowling. She was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation. She was also a member and past matron of the local Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving her, besides her husband, is a daughter, Mrs. Bradley (Jean) Larsen, Neillsville; two sisters, Ruby Syth of Neillsville and Helen Hemp of Rochester, Minn.; a brother, Carl Eisentraut, Neillsville; two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

May, Rosalyn (4 July 1924 – 17 April 1984)

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 21, from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville for Mrs. Maurice (Rosalyn) May, 59, of West Allis; who died on Tuesday, April 17, in West Allis. The Rev. Carl Otto of West Allis officiated at the service with burial made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The deceased was born on July 4, 1924, in Neillsville to Henry and Florence (White) Lipkie. She received her education in local schools, graduating from Neillsville High School in 1942. She was then employed as a clerk for McCain’s Department Store in Neillsville—a position she held for about 15 years.

On May 13, 1945, she married Maurice May in Iowa ceremonies. The couple moved to the Milwaukee area about 30 years ago.

Surviving her, besides her husband, is a son Bradley, Milwaukee; two sisters, Mrs. Marcella Opelt of Neillsville and Mrs. Armand (Myrtle) Miller of Withee; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Anne, and a brother, Harold.

Sternitzky, Elizabeth (11 March 1905 – 19 April 1984)

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 23, for Elizabeth Sternitzky, 79, from the Hansen Funeral Chapel in Marshfield. Burial was made in the Windfall Cemetery near Granton.

Mrs. Sternitzky, who made her home at Rt. 1 Granton, died on Thursday, April 19, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. She had been ill since April 2.

She was born on March 11, 1905, to Theodore and Bertha (Ponzloff) Hamus in Auburndale. She received her education in schools there. She was married three times. She was predeceased by her first husband, George Simolke, and her second husband, Clarence Nowack. She was married to Arnold Sternitzky on October 13, 1979. He survives her.

She farmed in Ogema area and then lived in Sheboygan for several years before moving to Granton. She and her husband operated a blacksmith and machine shop in Granton.

Surviving her besides her husband, is a son, Elmer Simolke, Wisconsin Rapids; a daughter, Mrs. Wallace (Eleanor) Erlandson, Minneapolis, Mn; two stepsons, Merlin and Darrel Sternitzky. Both of Fond du Lac; three sisters, Mrs. Albert (Margaret) Miaciejewski of Marshfield, Mrs. Evelyn Rotar, of Vesper and Mrs. Wenzel (Marcella) Kubs of Auburndale, and two brothers, George Hamus of Auburndale and Theodore Hamus of Unity. Joining them are five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.

And she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers.

Thur, Gordon Merton (5 November 1918 - 23 April 1984)

Gordon Merton Thur, 65, of rural Fairchild, died on Monday evening, April 23, in Neillsville Memorial Hospital.

He was born on November 5, 1918, in Fairchild to Rudolph and Clara (Watenpuhl) Thur. He attended Fairview School. On October 19, 1940, he married Velda Wegner in Fairchild ceremonies. The couple lived all their married life as farmers at rural Fairchild. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, where he served as an elder and council member.

Surviving him, besides his wife, is a son, Thomas, Fairchild, three daughters, Judy Beck of Eau Claire, Jane Maio of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Shirley Beckendorf of Farmington, Minn.; three sisters, Adelia Selz of Humbird, Ethyl Klatt of Fairchild and Darlene Hollister of Union Grove, and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held, Thursday, April 26, from Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta with the Rev. Arleigh Lutz officiating. Burial was made in the Fairchild Cemetery.
