The Rev. Douglas R. Groenewold of 808 School St., Withee, has been pastor of St.
John's Lutheran Church in Withee since being installed August 19, 1973. Before
he had been serving at Papua New Guinea. Pastor Groenewold was born February 13,
1941 in Spencer, Iowa. He graduated in 1959 from Everly Community High School;
received his B.A. degree in 1963 from Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne,
Indiana, and his master of divinity degree in 1967 from Concordia Seminary, St.
Louis. His ordination took place in 1967 at First English Lutheran Church,
Spencer, Iowa. From 1967-1972 he served as a missionary in Papua New Guinea. He
returned to the United States for a furlough and took graduate courses at the
St. Louis Seminary. From 1973 to the present time he has had the Withee
pastorate and also served as part-time Protestant chaplain at the Clark County
Health Care Center, Owen. He and his wife, Sonia, have three sons, Peter, Joel
and Aaron.
