Laabs, Harriet M. (4 November 1929 – 14 April 2022)
Harriet M. Laabs, age 92, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at The Waterford
in Colby.
Harriet was born on November 4, 1929, the daughter of Louis and Ida (Lube) Gosse
in the Town of Colby. She graduated from Colby High School and then Taylor
County Normal School in Medford for two years to obtain her teaching degree. She
roomed with a family and helped with their children while attending Normal
School. She taught school for grades 1 thru 8 for seven years at a one room
county school. She then worked for Bergstrom Garage for two years as a
bookkeeper.
Harriet married Alfred Laabs November 29, 1952, and together they worked on
their dairy farm until retirement September 1994. Harriet enjoyed gardening,
quilting, yoga exercise classes, polka dancing, reading, crafting, volunteering
as a teacher’s aide in the later years and enjoyed coffee and tea with her
friends.
Harriet is survived by her daughter: Nancy (Tom) Anen: two sons: David (Jane)
Laabs, and Brian (Alison) Laabs; and four grandchildren: Travis (Kelsey), Tracy,
Emma and Zoey; and two great-grandchildren: Ryler and Hunter.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Her husband: Alfred; and her siblings:
Anita, Viola, Herman, Melvin, Marion, and Dorothy.
A Funeral Service will be held at Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford
on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Asafa will officiate. Friends and
Family are welcome from 10 a.m. until time of service at funeral home on Friday,
May 13. Live stream will be available for those unable to attend on the Maurina
Schilling Funeral Home Facebook page or after the service anytime on Facebook or
the website.
