(4 Mar 1858 - 1 OCT 1928) After suffering
for about four weeks from an illness due to heart trouble, Charles
A. Poppe died at his home Sunday evening, Oct. 1, 1928, at the age
of 70 years, 7 months and 13 days. He was born in Sheboygan, Wis.,
March 4, 1858, remaining there till early manhood, when he went to
the western coast, later going to Wyoming to be a shepherd. After
remaining there seven years he returned again to Sheboygan. In 1897 he came to
Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. to live on his farm in Weston. The
following years he married Miss Hulda Marg and together they
developed a fine farm. Mr. Poppe was an
honest, industrious man of a quiet personality and had many
friends. Those who survive
to mourn his death are his wife and children, namely, Mrs. Ervin
Hemp, Mrs. Alvin Meihack, Frances, Clara, Sophia and Henrietta.
Also two brothers, Emil of Neillsville, Herman of Sheboygan, and
one sister, Mrs. Augusta Schiller of California. The funeral took
place on Thursday afternoon at his home, Rev. Motzkus officiating.
He was laid to rest in the Globe Cemetery. Those from away
who attended the funeral were Mr. Herman Poppe and sons, Ernest and
Edgar of Sheboygan, Misses Emma and Mathilda and Messrs. Fred and
