Tammy Tyznik was crowned “Miss Fairest of the Fair” Sunday evening in coronation
ceremonies at the grandstand at the Clark County Fair. She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tyznik, Route 1, Colby.
Miss Tyznik was the former “Miss Clark Rural Electrification” of 1975, sponsored
by the Clark Electric Cooperative.
She will be hostess for the 1977 county fair and will represent Clark County at
the state “Miss Fairest of the Fairs” contest held at Milwaukee in January.
Miss Tyznik plans to attended North Central Technical Institute at Wausau this
fall.

At the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new million dollar shopping complex
located on Abbotsford’s east side held Friday, August 6, 1976, were the
developer of the mall and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Graffunder, and his
partner and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Don Nelson.

Ninety persons attended the reunion of the Mertens family at Dorchester Park on
July 31, 1976. They were the children and relatives of the late Henry and
Elizabeth Mertens. Mrs. Sylvia Mertens, widow of the late Albert Mertens,
Dorchester, was in charge of arrangements.
Others of the immediate family who were present included Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Mertens and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Rhyner, Dorchester; Mrs. Clara Sailor, Owen;
George Mertens, Waukesha; and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Scholz and Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Schnedler, Milwaukee.
Two sons not attending were Lawrence Mertens, Los Angeles, California, and
Alfred Mertens, Jefferson.
Other relatives came from St. Paul, Minnesota, Lubbock, Texas, Milwaukee,
Jefferson, Lake Delton, Waukesha, Stevens Point, Port Washington, Wausau,
Medford, Owen, Colby, Stetsonville, and Dorchester.
A ball game was played and cards and other games were played. The affair began
with a potluck dinner at noon. Another reunion is planned for next year, with
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mertens in charge. The first Saturday in august was set for
the date of the gathering.

The annual reunion of the Stelzel family was held at Dorchester Recreational
Park Saturday afternoon.
Members of the immediate family who were present were: Ottilia Stelzel and Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Wanke, Stevens Point; Louis Stelzel, Mrs. Minnie Stelzel,
Dorchester; Mrs. Elizabeth Stelzel, Chippewa Falls, and Hattie Stelzel,
Abbotsford.
Many other relatives from all over the country also attended.
The group enjoyed a picnic supper. A variety of games were played and prizes
were awarded.

Mother and baby came home from the hospital on Monday.

Mary Lemke, Marshfield, and Chris Younker, Dorchester, were married on Tuesday,
July 20, 1976 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester, with Father Schaefer
officiating.
Parents of the couple are Mrs. Clara Lemke, Almond, and Mr. and Mrs. Norber
Younker, Dorchester.
Organist during the marriage ceremony was Mrs. Ronald Decker, and Steve Weber
was guitarist and soloist.
An A-line white crepe silk gown featuring a scalloped neckline and long puffy
sleeves accented with a ruffled hemline was worn by the bride. Her shoulder
length veil was held with a cap of daisies. Her bouquet was made up of yellow
roses, white carnations, daisies and baby’s breath, held by satin streamers with
baby roses attached.
Linda Broeske, sister of the bridegroom, was maid of honor and wore a blue
dotted Swiss A-line gown, complemented with a jacket and hat to match.
Rae Ann Younker and Bonnie Cather, bridesmaids, wore yellow and pink gowns
respectively to match the maid of honor. They carried a bouquet of daisies and
baby’s breath, with streamers matching the color of their gowns.
David Broeske, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, was best man. Randy Younker and
Tom Hilber were groomsmen.
Completing the wedding party were ushers, Bryon Broeske and Norman Lemke.
A supper, reception and dance followed at the Sword in Colby.
The bride attended Cornell Public Schools and the bridegroom is a 1973 graduate
of Abbotsford High School.
The couple is making their home in rural Dorchester.

Connie Estes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Drexell Estes, became the bride of Steven
Bakken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bakken, all of Norwood, Iowa, in a ceremony
Saturday, July 10, 1976 at 7:30 p.m. in the United Methodist Church. The Rev.
Gordon Freeburg officiated at the candlelight service.
The bride appeared with her parents and was attired in a long white gown trimmed
with Venice lace, which complemented the pleated effect on the bodice. It was
styled with high neck and long bishop sleeves, and the attached chapel train
flowed down the back of the gown.
Her veil was elbow length and held in place with a headpiece covered with lace
and pearls. She carried a bouquet of yellow roses, blue and pink carnations,
white daisies and baby’s breath. For something old she wore her grandmother’s
locket watch.
Mrs. Gary Estes and Mrs. Gary Mussman were her personal attendants.
Serving as maid of honor was Linda Estes, and bridesmaids were Linda Fedge and
Kim Jaspers. The maid of honor’s dress was of blue satin with flowered lace
overlays and styled with a high waist bodice, bell sleeves and lace cape with
stand up collar. She carried blue carnations with white daisies and baby’s
breath. The bridesmaid’s’ dresses were pink and yellow, and they carried pink
carnations and yellow carnations respectively.
Duane Bakken was best man, and groomsmen were Jerry Bakken and Gary Estes, Gary
Mussman, Bob Gaskill. David Brunsvold and Ken Selvig were ushers. Gary Mussman
and Bob Gaskill were candle lighters.
Mrs. Gordon Freeburg was the organist, and Lynn Tenold and Kathy Wilson,
soloists.
A reception followed in Wesley Hall.
The bride is a graduate of Northwood-Kensett High School and is attending North
Iowa Area Community College. She is presently employed by North Central Regional
Library as films librarian in Mason City, Iowa.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Colby High School and is a member of the
National Guard. He is employed by the Rock Island Railroad.
After their wedding trip to the Badlands of South Dakota, the couple will reside
at 206 ½ 6th N., Northwood, Iowa.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bakken and Steven are former rural Colby residents.
