Delbert D. Hutchins, 94, Spencer, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Colonial Center, Colby, where he had resided since Sept. 15, 2003. He lived at Well’s Nature View, Marshfield, prior to entering the nursing center. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, at the United Methodist Church, Spencer. The Rev. Lois Takata officiated. Burial was in Spencer Cemetery in the town of Sherman, Clark County.
Delbert Hutchins was born Feb. 1, 1909, in the town of Unity, Clark County, to Clarence and Anna [nee Catlin] Hutchins. He was a graduate and class valedictorian of Spencer High School. He married Helen Borth on June 12, 1935, in Marshfield. They farmed in the town of Unity, where he also had served as treasurer for 44 years. He was a 4-H leader in Clark County for 11 years, and had been honored as retired farmer of the year.
Survivors include one son, Jerome [Leah] Hutchins, DePere; one granddaughter, Dr. Larisa Hutchins, Okemos, Mich.; and one sister, Orel Schwieso, Lindsey.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, on Feb. 12, 1978; a brother, in infancy; and a sister, Iva Foelske.
Memorials may be designated in his name to the National Farm Medicine Center for Research, Marshfield.
Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home, Marshfield, assisted the family with arrangements.
