COURIER (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) 01/17/1924 Gorsegner, Christ
G. (29 Augl 1851 - 7 Jan 1924) Death claimed one
of our oldest settlers, when on Jan. 7th, 1923 Christ Gorsegner
passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital at Chippewa Falls. He had
taken ill on the preceding Thursday and taken to the hospital the
same day, but the best medical skill and the prayers of his
children were in vain. His Lord and Savior took him home. Christ Gottlieb
Gorsegner was born in Wisen Sea, Schlasien, Germany on Aug. 29,
1851, where he grew to manhood. In 1871 he immigrated to the U. S.,
landing at New York. A few weeks later he came to Wisconsin, where
he followed the trade of lumber grader in different parts of the
state. In 1882 he moved to Kansas, remaining two years. On Oct.
4th, 1884 he was united in marriage to Marie Teuke at Marshfield,
Wis., who preceded him in death ten years ago. To them were born
twelve children, two dying in infancy. They settled at Eau Claire.
In 1885 they moved to Thorp, Clark County, Wis. and settled on the
farm he occupied until his death. He was one of our pioneer
citizens and will be greatly missed in the community. He leaves to
mourn, six sons and four daughters: Fred of Newark, N.J., Chris of
Stanley, Mrs. Wm. Wnukowski of Mispah, Mont., Mrs. Albert Buss of
Thorp, Mrs. Herman Doege Jr. of Withee, William, Gustav, Carl,
Elsie and Emil of Thorp, an aged brother Wm. Gorsegner Sr. of
Milwaukee and seventeen grandchildren. Funeral services were held
at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Reseburg, Rev. A. C.
