DEC 1858 - 28 Jan 1927) Mr. Mathias Kass
died at his home in this village (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) on
Friday morning, Jan. 28, 1927, of cancer, after a lingering illness
extending over a period of several months. Deceased was born in
Luxembourg, Germany, on Dec. 18, 1858, and came to America at the
age of 21 years. After working for an uncle at Dubuque, Iowa for
several years, he went to Winona, Minn., where he was united in
marriage to Emma Spehn and in Dec. 1890, moved to a farm near
Eidsvold, Clark County, Wis. After many years spent on the farm he
moved to this village in 1913. He served the town of Thorp as clerk
for eleven years. Deceased had borne adversity bravely and enjoyed
prosperity quietly. He had filled the various relations of life, as
husband, father and friend, and filled them well. Who can do more?
Besides a devoted wife he leaves one son, Alfred, and seven
daughters, Mrs. A. J. Kleckner of Neillsville; Mrs. Joseph Juneman
of Stratford; Miss Mable of Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Ed Juneman of
Stratford; Miss Florence of Duluth; Mrs. W. E. Boelter of Thorp and
Miss Caroline of Wauwatosa, all of who were present at the funeral,
which took place on Monday morning from St. Bernard's Catholic
Church, Father A.M. Muckerheide officiating, interment following in
