Edward J. Hainz

Edward J.Hainz, age 94, Df Neillsville, died Sunday, May 16, 2004 in the Palliative Care Unit of St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Edward Hainz was born Feb. 15, 1910 in a house on Two Mile Road in the Town of Grant, Clark County, the son of David P. and Catherine (Hokamp) Hainz. He was raised and lived most of his life a block away in a house which his father built. Edward attended Washington School and two years at St. Jochamp Catholic School in Pittsville. After fmishing his schooling, he began working various jobs in the area, including the night shift working on highway 10 a carpenter for the Silver Dome Ballroom and Club Ten Supper Club and he operated a portable hammermill. In the 1930's he purchased the farm from his father. He was united in marriage to Florence Boldt on June 29, 1937 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. Together they farmed and raised their family. Edward retired from farming in the early 1970s, they sold the farm in 1990, and then moved into town at 704 W. 4th Street.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville and he loved playing Sheep head. In fact, they had their own Club in the Town of Grant called the Card Playing Club.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; four children, Marjorie (Conrad) Becker, of Neillsville; Jean (Greg) Tomac, of Eau Claire; Larry (Betty) Hainz, of Eau Claire and Janet (Jerry) Horswill, of Marshfield; eleven grandchildren, Brenda (Kevin) Cunningham, of Racine; Sally (James) Bradmon, of Kenosha; Thomas (Carrie) Tomac, of Sara&ota, Florida; Pam (Lyle) Haigh, of Rochester, Minn.; Cory (Andrea) Tomac, of Eau Claire; Heather (Kim) Brunn, of White Bear Lake, Minn.; Holly Hainz, of Winona, Minn.; Ryan (Jamie) Horswill, of Auburndale; Raquel (Nate) Bennington, of Marshfield; Renee Horswill, of Marshfield and Reed Horswill, of Marshfield; three great-grandchildren, Collin, Aria, and Blake and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Laura, Sarah and Leona; and five brothers, Frank, Roy, Leo, Otto and Lawrence.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Edward will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 20, at. St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Celebrant will be Fr. Woodrow H. Pace. Music will be provided by Ronald Resong, organist; Brenda Cunningham, musician and St. Mary's Choir. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Casket bearers are grandchildren: Ryan Horswill, Reed Horswill, Tom Tomac, Cory Tomac, Heather Hainz-Brunn and Sally Becker-Bradmon.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Edward's family with funeral arrangements.
