Hursh, Joanna F. (3 May 1969 – 8 May 2022)

Joanna F. Hursh age 53, of Curtiss, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 8, 2022, at the home of Joseph & Esther Mast with family close by, 13 months after being diagnosed with cancer.

Joanna was born on May 3, 1969, to Joseph K & Mary L (Fox) Hursh at Denver PA. She completed her formal education at the Unity Mennonite School, Unity.

Joanna taught school for a few years, and then spent a number of years serving as a foster care provider. She adopted her daughter and then poured her energies into raising her daughter while teaching special ed students and writing books over the last number of years. She will be greatly missed, especially by her daughter Cynthia as well as the rest of her siblings, parents and others her life touched.

She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Hursh, parents Joseph & Mary Hursh of Greenwood, siblings Mary Hursh, Ephrata PA, Joseph (Joanna) Hursh, Keota OK, (Joseph) Esther Mast, Abbotsford, Ruth Hursh, Ephrata PA, Noah (Faith) Hursh, Stanley, (Sheldon) Eunice Zimmerman, Owen, David (Esther) Hursh, Greenwood, (Paul) Rebekah Zimmerman, Loyal, 28 nieces & 26 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Joseph & Leah Hursh and Martin & Susie Fox.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is assisting the family with arrangements.
Visitation/Viewing hours are Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 2-4:00 pm & 6-8:00 p.m. at the Athens Mennonite Church and the funeral service will be on Friday May 13, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. also at the Athens Mennonite Church with burial at the church cemetery. Officiating will be Paul Miller, Clair Weaver, Jalon Horst and Enos Martin. Serving as pallbearers will be Joseph Hursh, Noah Hursh, David Hursh, Lowell Miller, Daniel Burkholder and Joseph Mast.
