Battersby, Leona (11 Aug. 1895 - 3 Jan. 1930)

Mrs. Stanley Battersby passed away at her home in the town of Washburn early Friday morning, January 3, her death being due to pneumonia.

Leona Wasserburger was born in Neillsville August 11, 1895 and was therefore 35 years, 4 months, and 22 days old at her death. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wasserburger and until her marriage always lived at home. She graduated from Neillsville high school in the class of 1914, after which she assisted her mother in the home.

On July 19, 1919, she was married to Stanley Battersby of the town of Washburn where they have lived ever since on their farm.

Mrs. Battersby was a lady of quiet manner, a devoted daughter, affectionate sister and a faithful and loving wife and mother. Among her neighbors and her old school mates her death has brought deep sorrow; but the blow falls hardest of all in her own home where she leaves her husband and two small children, Charles age 9 and Kathleen age 5. Besides there are left to mourn her early death, her mother, four sisters and three brothers, namely; Catherine Wasserburger at home; Josephine, Mrs. Charles Sherman of Wausau; Matilda; Mrs. Millard Chadwick of the town of Weston; Clara, Mrs. Carl Kessler, Jr. of Pine Valley; and the brothers, Henry, Leo and Frank of Neillsville.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. Father Weber officiating.
