Manthey, Albert (18 Nov. 1857 - 4 May 1930)

Albert Manthey one of Clark County’s oldest residents died Sunday, May 4 at his home near Globe in his seventy-third year. He had been ill for four and a half years. His death was due to dropsy. During his long illness he was a patient sufferer. Mr. Manthey was born in Pommern, Germany, Nov. 18, 1857, and grew to manhood there. In 1881 he came to America. On July 11, 1883 he was married to Miss Alvina Zastrow at Peshtigo, Wis. They lived at the Harbor for 8 years, he was there engaged in the lumber business. They then moved to Clark and brought the land which remained their home the rest of their lives. It was then in the midst of a wilderness, but by industry and economy they developed a comfortable home and reared their family. Mrs. Manthey died about a year and a half ago. Mr. Manthey for many years took an active interest in community affairs and in public business. For several years he was chairman of his town. He was highly respected by all who knew him and was considered a good citizen, a helpful neighbor and a kind husband and father.

He leaves to more his death 5 children: Emil of San Jose, Helen, Calif., Mrs. M. F. Gall of Chippewa Falls; William on the farm near Globe; Art on the home farm. Mary the oldest, died at the age of 14, and Elsie died in infancy. He leaves also two grandchildren.

The funeral was held Wednesday, May 7 at Globe Lutheran Church, Rev. Motzkus officiating.
