Skaleski, Victor (31 October 1911 - 8 October 1983)
WITHEE - Victor Skaleski, 71. Route 1, Withee, died Saturday in the emergency
room at St Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, after suffering an apparent heart
attack at home.
Services will be Wednesday at St Mary's Polish National Church, Lublin. The Rev.
E.J. Brzostowski will officiate. Entombment will be in Good Shepherd Mausoleum,
Green Bay. Visitation at the Maurina Funeral Home, Owen.
He was born Oct. 31, 1911 in Brown County, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank
(Martha Jelinski) Skaleski. He married Mary Gunia Nov. 29, 1934 in Lublin. She
survives.
He operated Vies Tavern in Belanger from 1934 to 1943, and then farmed in the
Town of Taft until 1951. He then operated the Longwood General Store until 1971.
He also drove a school bus for the Owen-Withee School District for many years.
He served as town chairman for the Town of Longwood for many years; was a member
of the Clark County Board of Supervisors for 15 years; a life-member of the Rod
and Gun Club of Lublin; was a polka band member in Belanger, Thorp and Lublin
areas from 1931 to 1951; and played baseball in Belanger, Thorp, Lublin and Eau
Claire.
A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mr. Skaleski also is survived by two
sons, Sylvester of Mundelein, Illinois and Sidney of Big Bend; one daughter, Mn.
Ray (Shirley) Bonczyk of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; three brothers, Joseph of Downers
Grove, Illinois, Anton of Des Plaines and Roman of Chicago; one sister, Mrs.
Clayborn (Lorraine) Ebben of Thorp; six grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by four brothers.
