Mrs. George W. Smith passed away at the Marshfield Hospital Jan. 1, 1923.
Mary Elizabeth Huston was born Sept. 6, 1852, daughter of Jacob and Mary Jane Huston in Mercer Co. Ohio. When a child two years old her parents moved to Richland Co., Wis. by ox teams, at which place she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to John Patno Dec. 22, 1869. To this union was born four children, Della Ives, who preceded her mother two years ago, Charles of Industry, Ill., John of Boise, Idaho, Lillie Clouse of Loyal, Wis.
Mr. and Mrs. Patno moved to Clark County, Wis. in 1900 and settled on a farm seven miles southeast of Loyal, where they lived until her husband's death in 1914.
In 1920 she was married to George W. Smith at Loyal, where she has since made her home.
The funeral service was held at the M. E. Church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Wilson Mallory officiating. She was laid to rest in the Loyal Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was a true Christian woman, having united with the Church of Christ forty-two years ago. She always tried to do good and have her influence on the side of right. She leaves her husband, 3 children, four grandchildren, and a host of friends to mourn her loss.
