Lenling, William (23 Apr 1844 - 6 May 1923)

Wm. Lenling died at his home on Sunday morning, May 6, 1923 after an illness of several months, being confined to his bed the last two months.

Wm. Lenling was born April 23, 1844 at Grosswilwitz, West Prussia, Germany. He came to this country with his parents at the age of twelve years, settling in Dodge Co., Wis.

In the year 1868 he was united in marriage to Miss Wilhelmine Goetz and to this union were born four children, one son and three daughters, Albert, Bertha, Minnie, and Adaline. His first wife died in the year 1879. In 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaretha Schmaltz, there being five children born of this union, three daughters and two sons, Maggie, Mary and Emma, William and Paul, all of who were present at the funeral with the exception of one son, Paul, who died fourteen years ago.

He came to Clark County, Wis. in the year 1890 and lived on a farm near Spencer and later went into business in Loyal, where he continued until he retired about eighteen years ago. He had been in business thirty-six years in Loyal and Fond du Lac Co.

In the year 1909 when the organization of the Citizens State Bank of Loyal took place, Mr. Lenling was elected to the Board of Directors, a place which he has filled in a creditable manner up to the time of his death.

Mr. Lenling was a kind and loving husband, a good neighbor and an honest man in all his business dealings. Not only in public but in private life did people seek and rely upon his advice, which was always freely given. Many people can testify to having been recipients of this kindness.

Mr. Lenling has been a faithful member of the Lutheran Church fo over thirty years and was a staunch believer in the Christian Faith.

Those who are left to mourn his departure are his wife, eight children, two brothers, four sisters, twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lutheran Church, Rev. Pohlman and Rev. Eske officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Lutheran Cemetery in the family lot.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Carl Lenling of Groton, S.D., his brother, Christian Schmaltz of Theresa, his brother-in-law, Augusta Krueger of Campbellsport, his sister, William Lenling and wife, August Lindner and wife, Frank Schoch and wife, Henry Rau and Wife, of Mosinee, and Albert Lenling of Menomonie, his children.
