Hull, Eleanor Josephine (19 February 1931 – 23 May 2022)

Eleanor Josephine (Karpinski) Hull, age 91, of Thorp, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the home of Dan and Pat, to live with her Lord in Heaven on May 23, 2022.

Eleanor was born on February 19, 1931, to Kasimer and Mary (Wilczek) Karpinski in the Town of Reseburg outside of Thorp. When Eleanor was 6 years old, the family moved to a farm in the Town of Butler where they built a new house. When Eleanor was 9 years old her father passed away of Tuberculosis, which he contracted while serving in the Army during World War I. In 1943, Eleanor, her mother, and her three siblings went to live on their grandparent’s farm in the town of Warden. In 1947, they all moved to a larger farm in the Town of Reseburg.

Eleanor attended the Jackson School and later graduated from Thorp High School in May 1949. After graduating she went to work in Chicago but returned home after a few months because she didn’t like big city life. Back in Thorp she got a job as a live-in nanny.

Eleanor married David Hull on Sunday, November 23, 1952, at St. Hedwig Catholic Church (the country church) in Thorp. This was the last Sunday wedding in that church. They lived in Milwaukee for a short time and then traveled from worksite to worksite, as Dave worked road construction. In the off season they returned to Eleanor’s family farm. Eleanor and Dave had 8 children: Dan, Debbie, Duane, Diane (1962-1962), twins Dennis and Denise, Danila and Doug. Over the years they lived in Thorp, Wausau, New London, and Neenah for Dave’s various jobs. Eleanor was a housewife and stay at home mother until later in life when she got a job at Burger King in Neenah and worked there for 10 years just for something to keep herself busy.

When Eleanor and Dave retired, they moved in with their son Duane and his family in Eau Claire and then bought a Condo at RealLife Cooperative Senior Living, also in Eau Claire. Eleanor continued to live there for a number of years after Dave passed away in 2004. In March 2020, Eleanor moved into the Morgan Plaza in Thorp. In February 2022, Eleanor required more care and moved in with her son Dan and his wife, Patty, until she passed away.

Eleanor was a fun loving, kind and caring woman who loved to be in the kitchen baking & cooking for everyone that came over. Over the years she enjoyed traveling, camping, playing Canasta, putting together jigsaw puzzles, yarn crafts and gardening. She was pretty good at navigating her iPad to Facetime friends and family, checking Facebook, and playing Solitaire every day. She has been to nearly every state, including Hawaii & went on an Alaskan cruise when she was 77. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family any chance she got. She especially cherished all the time she got to spend with her great-grandchildren. Plus, she never missed sending a birthday card to anyone!

Eleanor is survived by her son Dan (Patty) Hull of Thorp and their children Jessica (Matt) Gardner of Thorp, Jason (Julie) Hull of Wyoming, MN, Juliane (Jimmy) Petranovich of Thorp, Josh (Katie) Hull of Chippewa Falls; daughter Debbie (John) Nemes of Berkley, MI and their children Jessica (Steve) Morgan of Whiteland, IN, Doug (Penny) Nemes of Greenwood, IN, John David Nemes of Indianapolis, IN; son Duane (Bernie) Hull of Eau Claire and their children Robin (Aaron) Rott of Chippewa Falls and Max Hull of Eau Claire; son Dennis (Diana) of Dallas, TX, and Dennis’ son Kasey Hull of Appleton; daughter Denise (Rick) Kuhn of Sugarland, TX and their children Kyle Kuhn, Derrick (fiancé Abby) Kuhn both of Richmond, TX and Breanna (fiancé Logan) Kuhn of College Station, TX; daughter Danila (Jeff) Ousley of Starkville, MS and their children Brittany (Jonathan) Fandel of Hoover, AL and Jared Ousley of Starkville, MS; son Doug (Michelle) Hull of New London, and their children Eric (Melinda) Hull and Danelle (Trevor) Stuebs both of New London. Eleanor was blessed with 17 great-grandchildren: Raedyn, & Baeret Gardner, Claire & Carli Petranovich, Quinn & Grayson Hull, Wyatt & Brinley Hull, Alex & Bradley Morgan, Eli & Samuel Nemes, Finley & Vesper Rott, Emma Fandel, Eli & Ean Stuebs. Eleanor is also survived by her brother & sister-in-law, Chester & Alice Karpinski of Thorp, and sister-in-law, Marian Hull of College Station, TX along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Dave, parents Kasimer and Mary Karpinski, in-laws Wallace and Orpha Hull, infant daughter Diane, brother & sister-in-law Marion & Linda Karpinski, sister & brother-in-law Agnes & Joe Lato.

A funeral mass will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday May 27, 2022, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Burial will follow in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday May 26, 2022, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Church and again from 2:00 p.m. until time of service at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church.
