Helen Douglass, eldest daughter of John and Jane Douglass, was born in Madison Co., N.Y., Aug. 4th, 1845. She departed this life April 17, 1925, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 13 days. In 1850 she removed from New York with her parents to Lebanon, Dodge Co., Wis. She was united in marriage with James C. Sayles, of Saylesville, Wis. on Thanksgiving Day in the year 1867, and they made that place their home until the removed to Loyal, Clark County, Wis. in 1900. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sayles, all of who are living; these are: John of Wis. Rapids, Wis.; Percy, Dinuba, Calif.; Arthur of Loyal, Wis.; and Mary, Mrs. M. M. Weaver of this city.
Mr. Sayles departed this life March 9, 1916. Since his death Mrs. Sayles has spent much of her time, especially after her health began to fail, with her daughter, Mrs. M. M. Weaver, though she was much with her son and daughter-in-law in Loyal. During her declining days she was tenderly cared for by her children, and they made her suffering easier for her to bear by their ministrations.
Mrs. Sayles was converted to the Lord Jesus in early life and was through His grace enabled to live a consistent and devoted life till the end came and she entered into her rest. She, after her conversion united with the Methodist Church at Neosho, Wis. At Hartford, Wis., she became identified with the Congregationalist Order, and when she settled in Loyal, she returned to the church…………(the rest of the obit is covered by another obit in this library)
