Barth Family, Edward

John Barth and his parents' family came to Potters, Calumet Co., Wis., from Festenburg, Salesia, Germany, in April 1869. In April 1876, John and his father Ernest came on the Green Line Railroad to Hatfield, Neillsville, and Nasonville. He bought 80 acres of woodland, the north half of S. E. Section 36 (town of Fremont, Clark County - this was then called Fox River land). He bought this from W. Butler for $480.00. His father bought 80 acres in the town of Lynn, Clark County.

The family moved here by way of Marshfield in October 1876. While living with his parents, he cleared some land, built a house and log barn. On Dec. 27, 1881, he was married to Anna Kleinschmidt. They had eight children, Amelia, deceased 1971, Henry, deceased 1883, Minnie, deceased 1971, Bertha, deceased 1953, Otilia, Edward, Edwin and John are living. In 1898 they bought the S.W. of N.E. Section 36, from Starr Davis. John Barth Sr. died in 1922. Operation of the farm was taken over by Edward.

He was married to Lena Bealer on April 28, 1936. Mrs. John Barth Sr. died on Feb. 16, 1937. Lena and Edward Barth have two sons, Ernest of the University of West Virginia, at Morgantown, W. Virginia, and Garth who is at home.
