Reinwand Family, Charles
Charles Reinwand helped his father Andrew Reinwand farm land purchased from the Federal Land Bank in 1908. Later Charles purchased his own farm from Alfred Campaigne in 1920, where he and his wife Elsie cleared this land with two horses.
In 1927 they built a barn and had 27 head of cattle. When they cleared the land they planted a pine tree which is 40 years old and is now 40 feet tall.
In 1936 there was a severe drought in this area and the Reinwands were one of the few farmers who didn't have to move their livestock to pastures in northern Wisconsin. Their well never went dry.
In 1937 they had a fire that destroyed all of their belongings. They rebuilt their home themselves the same year. They have seven children.
In 1964 they bought their present farm, where they are now living in retirement.
Charles is 79 years old and Elsie is 77 years old, and they are in reasonably good health. They tapped many trees for maple syrup this spring.
