Hall, Charles H. (12 Mar 1850 - 27 Apr 1927)

Charles H. Hall, son of Samuel C. and Fidelia Hall, was born at Fort Atkinson, Wis. March 12, 1850. The family moved to Whitewater, Wis. and while there he attended Milton College. In 1869 he, with his father, located at Columbus, where they were engaged in the manufacture of wagons. After remaining in Columbus about ten years they came to Spencer, Wis. where they started a sawmill, which they carried on together until the fire of 1886 wiped out their business. Several years later Mr. Hall purchased 400 acres of timberland and erected another sawmill, which he operated for some twenty years.

On Jan. 6, 1880 the deceased was united in marriage to Josephine Lowth. Mr. and Mrs. Hall lived in and abut the vicinity of Spencer until Feb. 13, 1911, at which time Mrs. Hall was summoned. She died at the age of fifty-two years.

About the year 1900 he began clearing more land for farming purposes and was the owner of one of the largest farms in Clark County, Wis.

Mr. Hall was in apparent good health until some time in April when he was taken sick while on a visit to Bonduel and Seymour. He was removed to the St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay where he remained a few days. His condition not being considered serious, he was allowed to leave and return to Marshfield.

Saturday he was taken critically ill and relatives were immediately notified, some were present at the time of his death, which occurred Wednesday, April 27th, 1927, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. The deceased had reached the age of 77 years.

The cause of his death was heart trouble with complications.

He is survived by eight children: William of Seattle, Wash., Catherine of Loyal, Roderick of Spokane, Wash., Mercy of Seymour, Pauline and Isabel of Baker, Mont., Alice of Bonduel and Agnes of Marengo. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Hanna Prentice of Seattle, Wash.

Short funeral services were held Monday p.m. at the home of Mrs. Hazeltine and from there he was taken to the M. E. Church at Spencer where services were conducted by Rev. Householder of Greenwood, assisted by Rev. Brown of Spencer and Rev. James of Loyal. The Masonic Order of which he was a member, conducted an impressive ceremony at the grave, which is near that of his wife, who preceded him in death sixteen years ago.

Mr. Hall was a man of broad and liberal views, keeping well up with the times and was of a hospitable, cheerful disposition. Possessed of a magnetic personality, he easily acquired friends who appreciated and will remember the geniality present in his nature.
