Kilburn, Anthony W. (18 Mar 1901 - 22 OCT 1918)
Anthony W. Kilburn, only son of Mrs. E. Kilburn was born at Loyal March 18th, 1901. He spent all of his life here in our village, attending the public and parochial schools and attending High School for two years. Seven months ago he commenced working in the Loyal State Bank, where he faithfully performed his duties, until his illness which was of a short duration. A few weeks ago he was well and active, taking part in life's duties and pleasures, today he is gone. He was taken sick on Sunday Oct. 13th with Spanish influenza, in a few days it turned to pneumonia, he growing rapidly worse until the end came which was Tuesday morning Oct. 22nd.
Anthony was an unusually bright boy, with a cheery word and smile for everyone. He was a general favorite with his school mates.
The deceased was a member of the Catholic Knights. He being the youngest member in the State at the time he joined, which was two years ago.
He leaves to mourn his death, a mother, two sisters, Veronica and Clara, his father having preceded him in death, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
On account of the epidemic the funeral services were private and attended by relatives only. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. The services were held at the Catholic church Friday morning. Rev. Joseph F. Stenz officiating and he was laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.
As a mark of respect both Banks closed from 9 to 11 Friday morning.
