Brey, Dawn J. (20 January 1956 – 15 June 2022)
Dawn J. Brey, age 66, of Greenwood, formerly of Somers, passed away on
Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Clark County Rehab & Living Center in Owen.
Dawn Jean Vanderhoof was born on January 20, 1956, in Neillsville, to Archie B.
and Nila J. (Nelson) Vanderhoof, Sr. As a young girl, her family moved and
settled in Somers, where she was raised and received her education, attending
Bradford High School in Kenosha. Dawn was united in marriage to Gary R. Brey on
March 30, 1974, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sturtevant. They resided in
Somers where Dawn held various jobs, but she spent many years as a floral
designer at Steins Garden Center in Racine. She was also a member of the Ladies
Auxiliary for the Somers Fire & Rescue Department, where she was a past
president. In September 2014, they moved to Greenwood to be closer to family.
Dawn had many interests, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family
and friends, and was known for her root beer floats, Christmas fudge and
cookies.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of 48 years, Gary, of Greenwood; her
children: Gary Jr. (Jessica) of Hegg, and Jenny Davidson of Greenwood; eight
grandchildren: Brianna Davidson (Devin Rose), Holly Davidson (Kyler), MariKate
Davidson, Addison Davidson, Paetyn Davidson, Tony Chase (Emily Aerts), Coty
(Mackenzie) Chase, Jake (Alyxis) Miller; seven great-grandchildren: Paisleigh
Rose, Everlee Rose, Audri Chase, Tess Chase, Daisy Chase, Bailee Miller, Houston
Miller, and one on the way; nine siblings: Ruben Vanderhoof of Stratford, Dennis
Vanderhoof of Kenosha, Rick (Joan) Vanderhoof of Kenosha, Norman (Eileen)
Vanderhoof of Marshfield, Annette Vanderhoof of Neillsville, Archie Jr.
(Carolyn) Vanderhoof of Marshfield, David Vanderhoof of Marshfield, Nancy
(Brian) Dupee of Arpin, Lisa (Mike) Lyons of Loyal, many nieces, nephews, other
relatives, dear friends, and her dog, Ricky. Dawn was preceded in death by her
parents, and her father-in-law, Russell Brey.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at
Cuddie Funeral Home in Greenwood. Rev. Leo Johnson will officiate, and burial
will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Chase, Coty
Chase, Jake Miller, Rick Vanderhoof, Norman Vanderhoof and Tom Green. Visitation
will be held at the funeral home, on Saturday, from 11 a.m. until time of
service.
