Fuchs, Joseph (14 Sept. 1851 - 17 April 1931)

Joseph Fuchs for more than 20 years a resident here, passed away on Friday, April 17, at the home of his step-daughter, Mrs. Frank Sonnentag on West Seventh Street.

Mr. Fuchs was born in Germany on Sept. 14, 1851, and was 79 years, 7 months and 3 days old at his death. He grew to manhood in Germany and was married there, coming with his wife to America when he was 30 years of age. They settled in Illinois, later moving to Marathon City, Wis., where they lived on a farm. Afterwards they moved to Neillsville. His wife having died he married Mrs. Elizabeth Bauer in 1912. She died three years later. There were no children by either marriage.

For the past 11 years he has made his home with Mrs. Sonnentag, who has kindly cared from him in his declining years. For some time he followed farming in Pine Valley, but of late years he has not been able to do much work.

Besides Mrs. Sonnentag he leaves other step-children: Mrs. August Sonnentag of Wausau; Mrs. Hugh Eisemann of Marathon; Mrs. Matt Muller of Madison, and John Bauer, who residence is not know. He leaves also a brother, Frank Fuchs in Oregon. He was an honest, upright man and like by all who knew him.

The funeral was held at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Tuesday morning, Rev. Fr. Weber, officiating. Burial took place at Marathon City.
