Garfield, Julia (1 April 1866 - 31 May 1931)
Mrs. Wm. Garfield passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital, Miles City, Montana, on May 31, 1931. Her death was the result of a general break-down in health due to three attacks of flu.
Julia Ragan was born at Tunnel City, Wis., April 1, 1866, being the daughter of Dennis and Ann Barbara Ragan.
When a young woman she came to Neillsville and established a dressmaking shop in company with Anna Gerlinger, which was carried on successfully for some time.
On May 13, 1891, she was married to William E. Garfield at Tomah, Wis. They made their home in Neillsville for a good many years, and in 1912, moved to Montana.
Mrs. Garfield was greatly devoted to her home and family, giving her strength, energy, love and devotion to the welfare of those about her. Her old neighbors in Neillsville remember her with affection and grieve to learn of her death.
She leaves her husband and three children: Helene, Mrs. A. J. Hubing of Union, Montana; Mrs. Hannah Dickson of Wausau; and Louis at home. She leaves also two sisters and three brothers: Miss Joanna Ragan, Wm. Ragan, and John Ragan of Harrington, Wash.; Mrs. Anna Witte, Ferndale, Wash.; and George Ragan, Janesville, Wis.
The funeral was held at St. Francis Church, Circle, Montana; interment taking place in the cemetery there.
