Nutting, Benjamin Franklin (1 Jan 1840 - 23 Mar 1919)

B. F. Nutting died at the home of his son, Dumont at Butternut March 23, after a few days of illness at the age of 79 years.

Benjamin Franklin Nutting was born in the town of Madison, Somerset Co., Maine January 1st 1840. In the fall of 1860 he came west locating at LaCrosse, where he was hired as a lumberman to work in the woods. In this kind of work he was engaged for thirty winters. He was united in marriage at Skowhegan, Maine to Miss Josephine Hayden July 30, 1867. They came to Wisconsin 42 years ago, where he bought 120 acres of wild land. This farm he developed summers, getting supplies from LaCrosse. In 1901 he moved to the village where he has since lived. While on the farm Mr. Nutting served for a number of years as a member of the town board and as a good citizen he has always taken an interest in all measures for the betterment of the community. He was always a strong temperance man and for years a Good Templar. He also was a member of the I. O. O. F. of Greenwood.

He leaves to mourn his loss, three sons, William of Loyal, Clifford and Dumont of Butternut and eleven grand-children. Mrs. Nutting having preceded him in death by eight months.

The funeral services were held at the M. E. church on Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. E. E. Strevey officiating. He was laid to rest in the Loyal Cemetery.
