Hoffman, Dora Anna (23 Feb. 1911 - 28 Sept. 1999)

Dora Hoffman, age 88, of Neillsville, Wis., died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999 at her home.

Dora Anna Hoffman was born on Feb. 23, 1911 in Globe, Wis. The daughter of William and Helene (Klucckmann) Scheel. She was baptized Feb. 27, 1911 at her parent’s home by Pastor H. Brandt. Dora attended the Globe School and then worked for various families in the area along with helping her mother at home after her father’s death at the after of 33. On April 13, 1924 she was confirmed at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Globe by Pastor W. Parisius. She was united in marriage to William Hoffman on June 12, 1935 in Globe by Pastor W. Motzkus. After their marriage, Dora and William farmed with Grandma Hoffman for a short time and then with Dora’s Aunt and Uncle before eventually buying William’s parent’s farm, where they farmed for the majority of their lives. In 1961, they sold the farm and moved into Neillsville, Dora began working as a cleaning lady and then was hired by the hospital, where she cleaned for 23 years before retiring in 1986. William died in 1988. Dora has been a member of the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and their ladies aid since November of 1963. She was also a member of the Red Cross and the Memorial Medical Center Hospital Auxillary. Dora will be remembered for her love of baking and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Eileen (Bob) Bell of Neillsville; five grandchildren: Barbara (Ron) Allen of Des Moines, Iowa; Linda (Ronald) Rogus of Neillsville, Susan (Colyn) Luchterhand of Birmingham, Ala., Cheryl (Steve) Grade of North Fond du Lac, Wis., and Fred Hoffman of Milwaukee, Wis.; six great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lillian Kalsow of Neillsville and Louise Scheel of Neillsville and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, a son, Melvin who died in 1989; her parents; and three brothers: Herman, Wilmer, and Gerhardt.

Funeral services for Dora were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Timothy Biehert officiated. Music was provided by Judy Trunkel, organist. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday the Gesche Funeral home in Neillsville and from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, at the church.

Honorary Casket Bearer was Colyn Luchterhand.

Casket Bearers were: Ron Allen, Steve Grade, Freddy Hoffman, George Koemer, Ronald Rogus and James Tank.

In lieu of flowers memorials May be directed to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 711 W. 5th St., Neillsville, WI 54456.

The Gesche Funeral Home assisted Dora’s Family with arrangements.
