DAVIS-JOHNSON WEDDING EVENT OCCURS TODAY

Local Couple Married at Simple Home Ceremony

An informal afternoon ceremony today at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John E. JOHNSON, city, united in marriage their daughter, Miss Estelle Margaret JOHNSON, and Robert F. DAVIS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred H. DAVIS, also of this city. The Rev. John BIRRELL, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church here, officiated at the 4 o'clock service.

A shoulder corsage of gardenias and wine accessories enhanced the wine colored frock worn by Miss Johnson.

Immediate relatives of the bride and groom attended the ceremony at the home where dinner was later served. A decorative note was provided for the occasion by bouquets of fall garden flowers.

The bride and groom will leave shortly on a wedding trip, their destination unrevealed. In the near future, Mr. and Mrs. DAVIS will welcome friends at their home, 610 S. Central Ave., city. The groom is employed locally at the Standard Oil company.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Davis are McKinley high school graduates. Mrs. Davis continuing her schooling at Lawrence college, Appleton, and in Chicago where she was graduated this spring from the Nurses Training school at the Presbyterian hospital. Mr. Davis was a student for two years at the State Teachers college at Stevens Point and later spent two years at the University of Wisconsin.

Both Estelle and Robert Davis are buried in the Windfall Cemetery, Clark Co., Wisconsin.

In 1927 Stevens Point Normal School became Central State Teachers College and began offering four-year teaching degrees. When post-World War II enrollment became less centered on teacher training and more focused on liberal arts education, the Wisconsin State Legislature intervened, elevating the school to a Wisconsin State College with the authority to grant bachelor's degrees in liberal arts.
