Bird, Vilma (Marriage - 16 April 1941)
MORTIMER-BIRD
Rev. G. W. Longenecker performed the ceremony at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, which united in marriage Miss Vilma Bird and Harold Mortimer, the rites taking place at Sunset Point. Their attendants were Misses Florence Roehl, Mildred Simek, Ernest Bird and Algernon Breseman.
The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bird of the town of Weston, was dressed in a beautiful wedding gown of sparkle velva over starched chiffon. She wore a finger-tip veil and carried an arm bouquet of pink carnations and white snapdragon. Her jewelry consisted of an old fashioned necklace belonging to her mother. The bridesmaids wore pastel shades of marquisette over satin. Miss Simek wore blue, while Miss Roehl was dressed in pink. They wore shoulder-length veils to match their gowns and gold crosses. Their flowers were pink and yellow snapdragon.
Mrs. Mortimer was graduated from the Neillsville high school with the class of 1940. She had always made her home with her parents. The groom also was graduated from the Neillsville high school. For a time he attended the state teachers college at River Falls. During his school course and since, he had assisted his father with the farm work. He is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mortimer of the town of York.
Supper was served at the home of the bride's parents following the ceremony, only the relatives and immediate friends of the couple being in attendance. A reception was held in the evening, with a shower for the couple at the York town hall on Friday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer will live on the old Edens farm in the town of York which he will operate, the home having been prepared for immediate occupancy.
