Blasel, Betty A. (25 JUN 1931 - 12 Apr 2004)

Betty A. Blasel, 72, Medford, died Monday, April 12, at Wausau Hospital, Wausau, where she had been a patient for the past month. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, at the Hemer Funeral Home, Medford, and at 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 15, at Immanuel Evangelical Church, Medford. The Rev. Paul Steinberg will officiate. Honorary pallbearer will be Brian Brusten. Pallbearers will be Arden Brusten, Martin Kallenbach, Terry Kallenbach, Mike Hana, and Joe Hana.

Betty A. Rex was born June 25, 1931, in the town of Unity, to Rueben and Olga [nee Kuester] Rex. She received her education at Maplewood School in the town of Unity. She graduated from Colby High School in 1949 and from Taylor County Normal School in 1951. After her education, she taught elementary education for seven years at Maplewood School, Unity. She also taught one year at the Unity State Grade School. She married Kenneth F. Blasel on June 13, 1959, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Riplinger. After her marriage, she and her husband farmed in the town of Browning. She continued farming with her sons after his death on May 7, 1978, until 1990, at which time she went to work in the bakery at Market Place Foods, Medford, until retiring in 1993. She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Medford, Mary Circle of the Ladies of Immanuel, Merry Mixers Homemakers, the Taylor County Historical Society, Medford Christian Women After 5, and was a former Sunday school teacher in Riplinger and a former vacation Bible school teacher at Immanuel in Medford. Her interests included writing letters, crafts, canning, outdoor yard work, reading, singing, and writing poetry.

Survivors include two sons, Don [Debra] Blasel, Withee, and Dale [Lois] Blasel, Goodrich; seven grandchildren; one sister, Marcella Neitzel, Milwaukee; and one brother, Orville [Jean] Rex, Brookfield.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; and one son. Duane A. Blasel, in 2000.

Memorials May be made in her name to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Medford.

Hemer Funeral Service, Inc., Medford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
