December 16, 1944
Mr. and Mrs. Walter FOEMMEL of Chili announce the marriage of their daughter, Irene, of Portland, OR, to Lawrence SMAZAL, also a resident of Portland. The ceremony was performed Dec. q6, at 7 p.m., by the Rev. Felix Janssen in St. John’s Lutheran Church at Portland. Attendants were Misses Mildred HECKEL and Mary SMAZAL, Kenneth LUNDEEN, and L.H. GRIZZLE.
For the occasion, the bride was attired in a white satin frock with an over blouse of lace and a bouffant net skirt. Her finger-tip veil was caught to a crown of seed pearls and she carried an orchid.
Both bridesmaids wore similar frocks of pink and blue satin and corsages of teas roses and gardenias. For jewelry they had small cross necklaces, gifts of the bride.
Following the ceremony an informal reception was held at the home of the bride’s aunt, Mrs. Nora PISCHER. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Chris MOSTERT and daughter, Sherrill, Miss Lois EILERS, Mr. and Mrs. Birger ARNBOM and family, Mr. and Mrs. G.M. KETTLAND and family, Mrs. BROWN, Mrs. Frank WALDER and son, Mrs. Floyd YOUNCE and the Rev. Mr. JANSSEN.
The bride and groom are both employed in war work by the Swan Island Shipyard. Mrs. SMAZAL formerly worked at the Weinbrenner Shoe Factory and the Roddis Lumber and Veneer plant here.
The couple is now at home to friends at 3809 Broadacres, Apt. 4909, Vanport City, OR.
