Neillsville Man Dies From Injury
Merrill Gault, Neillsville, died early Wednesday at the Marshfield hospital from injuries suffered near Spencer Monday when a truck in which he was riding was struck by a Soo Line train.
Gault and Ben Whitbeck of Owen, riding on the rear of the truck, were the only men seriously injured of nine men on the truck, three of whom jumped to safety. The truck belonged to the Ulen Construction Company.
Gault's death was the result of head injuries and a lacerated scalp, 48 stitches being required to close the wound. Gault leaves to survive him his wife and seven children. His remains were brought to Neillsville this forenoon.
Coroner P.C. Ludovic announced that a thorough investigation of the accident will be made before plans for the holding of an inquest, if any, is held.
***The birth date was taken from a tombstone reading in Neillsville, WI, St. Mary's Cemetery.
