CAR STRIKES TREE

Friday afternoon a serious auto accident occurred at the south end of Hewett street, in which a man had his collar born broken and received several bad cuts and bruises. The occupants of the car were Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Martin, their little daughter and a young man who was riding with them. They were enroute from Detroit, Mich., to St. Paul to attend the funeral of Mr. Martin’s mother and were driving fast. Mrs. Martin was at the wheel and failed to notice the turn on Highway 10 as they approached the south end of Hewett Street until she was close to the corner and was unable to make the turn. The car struck a telephone pole and glanced into a large maple tree directly in front of Geo. E. Rude residence, practically destroying the car.

Mr. Martin was the only one of the party who was injured. He was taken to Neillsville hospital where Dr. Rosekrans set the broken born and dressed the other wounds; and the entire party took the 4:30 train for St. Paul that afternoon. Mr. Martin is a police sergeant in the city of Detroit.
