Hemp, William (?-1944)
William F. Hemp, city clerk of Neillsville from 1933 until his resignation, which became effective this week, was found dead of a gunshot wound at his home here late yesterday.
Mr. Hemp had had and engagement to meet his wife in the downtown section during the afternoon, and when he failed to keep it she became alarmed.
Investigation revealed his body in a small workshop at the rear of his garage at the Hemp home on Neillsville’s North Side. The shotgun charge had penetrated his heart. Coroner Herbert L. Brown said death was due to accident.
Hemp was assistant cashier of the First National Bank of Neillsville before his election as city clerk in the spring of 1933. He leaves his wife and one son who is in the armed service.
