40th Anniversary (Mr. & Mrs. Henry Elmhorst- 1940)
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Elmhorst Sr. of the Town of Fremont, renewed their marriage vows, made 40 years ago, at a ceremony Thursday evening, Sept. 26, at their home. The Rev. Arthur H. Laesch, of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Granton, officiated.
The home was appropriately decorated with garden flowers, and Mrs. Elmhorst carried a large bouquet of white gladioli. Songs in keeping with the occasion were sung by a group numbering 60.
A mock wedding was the high light of the evening. Acting as the bride was Miss Laura Mae Elmhorst, youngest daughter of the Henry Elmhorsts, who wore her mother’s wedding gown, veil, and wreath, and Henry Elmhorst Jr. as groom, attired in his fathers wedding suit. Ray Tyler was "the minister". After the evening’s entertainment, lunch was served. The anniversary cake was decorated with a miniature bride and groom and 40 ruby-colored candles. A purse of money was presented to the honor guests by the group. Children and their families who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Elmhorst and sons, Ronald and Wendell, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elmhorst, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Elmhorst and daughter, Wanda, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Elmhorst Jr. and sons, Eldred, Henry IV, Roy, and Billie, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Smith and daughter, Evelyn, and sons, Jerry and Roderick, and Vera, Verna, and Laura Mae Elmhorst. Four children were unable to attend. They included Miss Evelyn Elmhorst and Eldon Elmhorst, Kankakee, Ill, Mr. and Mrs. George Witheft, Buckingham, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Capelle, Town of Grant. Mrs. Capelle, who had charge of the preparations, was unable to attend because of illness. Other guests were the Rev. and Mrs. Arthur H. Laesch, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Elmhorst, Fred Elmhorst and daughters Elaine and Gertrude, Mrs. ? Elmhorst and sons Elmer and Melvin, Mr. and Mrs. Kobs and sons, Kenneth and Jackie, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Johnson and daughter, Elaine, and son, Billy, and Miss Gertrude Wagner, Neillsville, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tyler and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Canfield and family.
